Born 9th December 1946
As a youngster, Sandy Jones' two great interests were Glasgow Rangers and Golf where he played at his local club that had been recently constructed. Sandy now plays off a handicap of 5.
After an early career in structural engineering, Sandy transferred into computers with IBM. However, after a long history of service to Golf organisations, he joined the Professional Golfers Association in 1980 as PGA Scottish Regional Secretary.
His appointment as Executive Director at the PGA Headquarters at the Belfry in 1991 was the beginning of a golden period for the likeable Scot. He shot to national prominence after the sad events of 9/11 and his handling of the cancellation of the Ryder Cup Tournament and the subsequent running of the event the following year was a master piece of diplomacy and administration.
He is joint Managing Director of Ryder Cup Ltd and will be involved in the presentation of the Tournament in Detroit in September 2004.
The PGA has grown massively with Jones at the helm - particularly building on the PGA brand.
He is also a non-voting advisor on the Ryder Cup Selection Committee which decides the venue for the American and European clashes.
One of his ambitions is to be the first chief executive of the PGA to make retirement age.
As a humorous after dinner speaker, Sandy is much sought after and will delight golfers and non golfers alike with his tales from the world of golf. He is equally at home at Sporting Dinners, Conferences or Golf Clubs where his Ryder Cup presentation is much sought after.
